President & CEO
Janet West is a notable figure in the beauty industry. After receiving her cosmetology license in 1983, she moved from Michigan to central Florida with her husband to join family. Since then, she has led a beauty revolution in the area. Her success has enabled others to be successful!
In 1986, Janet began work at Shear Madness and was soon given the opportunity to own the salon. Her career was shifted from behind the chair to behind the business! Throughout the years, she has owned and managed 7 different salons, built and opened a cosmetology school, developed a hair care line, and established a beauty product distributor.
Currently, Janet owns and operates three full-service salons (Salon Jaylee® salons), a 10,000 sq. ft. accredited cosmetology school (The TENAJ Salon Institute), a beauty product distributor (TENAJ Beauty Group), and her own professional hair care line (TENAJ®). Together, her businesses complement one another by supporting staff members, students, guests, and the community.
Passionate about education, Janet participates in continued learning and encourages her staff to grow their knowledge in frequent classes. Advanced training and workshops keep her team ahead of the curve and current on trends. Janet has also dedicated time to helping her peers in the beauty industry, working as an outside consultant, and sharing her success stories with other salon owners.
Janet’s philanthropic efforts speak highly of her desire to give back to the community that supports her team. With over 75 employees, this power in numbers has come together to make a positive difference in many charitable causes such as the American Cancer Society, BackPack Program, Educational Foundation of Lake County, Operation Shoebox, and Wounded Warrior Project. Additionally, her businesses have contributed to many community efforts, such as support in local schools and women’s shelters.
Her favorite part about working in the industry is building relationships with creative individuals and inspiring future generations to begin a career in beauty! “It’s very rewarding to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to the next generation! We all need to continuously educate and reinvent ourselves!”
