beauty care for men
Women aren’t the only ones who need to take care of their hair, skin, and nails. Men need beauty care too!
There are two types of men: men who use a 3-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and men who have various personal care products. The beauty industry recognizes this, and consequently does their best to cater to all men and their accompanying self-care routine.
Beauty care for men aims to be simple and effective. In this post, we will provide 7 tips for maximizing men’s time and personal care regimen. Men, this one’s for you!
1. Stick to the basics.
In this day and age, everyone could benefit from saving time and money; especially when it comes to personal care, which is viewed as a luxury by many. When choosing hair and skin care products, men are encouraged to keep things simple and buy only what they need. Sometimes, less really is more!
Typically, if men are given a skin care regimen that has 6-steps, they are not going to commit. However, if they are given a skin care regimen that has only 2 to 3 steps, they will be more likely to commit. It’s better to have some sort of personal care routine, rather than none at all!
2. Don’t exfoliate after shaving.
Exfoliating is great, when done properly. Shaving itself is already an act of exfoliation, therefore if you exfoliate with a product afterwards, it can cause skin irritation and discomfort. Men are advised to exfoliate a few times a week before they shave or on days they don’t shave.
3. Cut your nails after showering.
The best time to cut your nails is usually when your nails and cuticles are soft after showering. This will make it easier to cut the nail, particularly thicker nails. However, if you have brittle nails, it is recommended to cut them while dry to avoid further damage or tearing.
4. Don’t skip conditioner.
It is another step in the shower, but it doesn’t have to take up much of your time. Conditioner has numerous benefits including repairing, protecting, and strengthening the hair.
Take a few moments to squirt a dime-sized amount of conditioner and apply it to your hair. While you are doing the rest of your business, let it sit for a few minutes. Wait to rinse out the conditioner until you are ready to hop out of the shower!
5. Wear daily sunscreen moisturizer.
If there was only one product that could be highly-recommended to put on your face, neck, and chest in the morning, it would be a sunscreen moisturizer. Guard your skin from harmful sun rays, prevent hyperpigmentation, and slow down signs of aging in one-punch. Sunscreen is the elixir to eternal youth!
6. Use the right amount of product.
Imagine, a couple has just moved in together and the girlfriend is showing her boyfriend her skin care routine. He asks if he can try some of the serum she just used and she excitedly says yes.
He takes the serum, smells it, and squirts so much product into his hand it starts dripping off the sides.
Panicked, the girlfriend explains that’s WAY too much and that you only need a little bit of product, as a little product goes a long way!
Don’t let this be you. Wasted product is wasted money!
7. Apply lotion after showering.
Your skin’s natural oils and skin barrier is stripped in the process of showering. While it might seem we are hydrating our skin in the shower, we are actually dehydrating our skin.
Because of this, immediately after showering it is advised to apply a lotion all over your body to restore your skin’s moisture levels. The more time you allow to pass before applying lotion, the dryer your skin will get.
